First Chapter Assessment

A look at your first chapter

  • You get: A sense of my coaching style and feedback on your first chapter. 
  • Send me a 1-2 page synopsis of your novel plus first chapter (up to 10 pages, Times New Roman, 12 point, double spaced). 
  • I will take 5 business days to review your chapter and write feedback. 
  • You will receive a 1-2 page editorial letter with feedback and next steps. 
  • We will have a 60 min coaching call to discuss feedback and next steps. 
  • FULL PACKAGE INVESTMENT: $200

Mini Story Roadmap

  • You get: A foundation for the most important elements of your story: theme, main character arc, logical plot flow, and your WHY for writing this story!
  • You will receive a guided worksheet to help you craft your outline.  
  • We will schedule a deadline that works for you and a time for our call. 
  • I will take 5 business days to review your outline and write feedback. 
  • You will receive a 1-2 page editorial letter with feedback and next steps. 
  • We will have a 60 minute coaching call to discuss your story's outline.

Partial Manuscript Assessment

  • You get: An editorial look at your novel's progress and feedback on style, pacing, and some mechanics. The partial manuscript assessment does not include feedback on big picture issues like theme or character development. See Full Manuscript Review. 
  • We will start with a 30 min planning call to go over intake questions, submit your manuscript, and schedule the feedback call. 
  • You will submit up to 50 pages of your manuscript in standard manuscript format. 
  • I will take up to 5 business days to review your manuscript. 
  • You will receive an editorial letter with my feedback as well as light in-line edits and comments. 
  • We will have a 60 minute coaching call to discuss your manuscript and next steps. 
  • Package Includes: One editorial letter with light in-line feedback on your manuscript, one 30 minute planning call, one 60 minute coaching call. 
  • FULL PACKAGE INVESTMENT: $500.

FULL ROADMAP

  • You get: A deep dive into the foundational elements of your story so you can confidently write forward and make every writing minute count. 
  • You will receive a detailed worksheet to help you craft your story. This worksheet is adapted from the Author Accelerator "Blueprint for a Book" by Jennie Nash. I am an Author Accelerator certified book coach and have training and experience in the Blueprint method.  
  • We will have a 30 minute planning call and will schedule 3 deadlines for you to turn in the assignments. 
  • After each deadline, I will take up to 5 business days to review your work and provide written feedback. We will schedule the next coaching call. 
  • After each deadline we will have a 1 hour coaching call to discuss feedback and the next assignment. 
  • Feedback Includes: one 30-min planning call, three 60-min coaching calls, 3 editorial letters with in-line comments. 
  • FULL PACKAGE INVESTMENT: $800, additional rounds of feedback $200 per deadline.

Coaching

  • You get: One on one coaching as you write your way through your novel. 1:1 Coaching is only available once you have done either the Mini or Full Roadmap package with me.
  • At the start of each month, we will schedule the month's deadline and coaching call.  
  • At the deadline, you will submit up to 20 pages of writing (standard manuscript format) for my review. 
  • After each deadline, I will take up to 8 business days to review your work and provide written feedback as an editorial letter and in-line comments. 
  • After receiving written feedback, we will have a 1 hour coaching call to discuss feedback and the next assignment. 
  • Feedback Includes: one 60-min coaching call, one editorial letter with in-line comments. 
  • FULL PACKAGE INVESTMENT: $300/month OR $800 for a 3 month package.

The Big Picture

Full Manuscript Assessment

  • You get: A full editorial look at your novel to answer that important question - does your story work? This assessment includes an analysis of big picture issues such as logical plot flow, character development, story structure, and themes. 
  • We will have a 30 minute planning call to discuss your manuscript and areas you want focused feedback. 
  • You will send me your complete manuscript in standard manuscript format. 
  • I will take up to 15 business days to review your manuscript. 
  • You will receive a detailed editorial letter with my feedback as well as in-line edits and comments on your first two chapters. 
  • We will have a 60 minute coaching call to discuss your manuscript and next steps. 
  • Feedback Includes: One 30 minute planning call, a detailed editorial letter plus additional in-line feedback on the first and final chapters, one 60 minute coaching call. 
  • Investment: $1500 for manuscripts up to 95,000 words. Add $250 for each additional 10,000 words.

  • What is a book coach?
    A book coach is like a personal trainer for your writing life. Of course, you can write your book on your own just like you can go to the gym solo. However, if you are looking for personalized input that targets the exact strengths and weaknesses of your particular story, a book coach is for you. Most of all, a book coach is there to be your writing bestie - someone to encourage you along the way and remind you that only you can write your story.
  • How does the coaching process work?
    Depending on the coaching service, my feedback usually consists of written feedback with the option of live coaching calls. The written feedback always includes an editorial letter that highlights any big pictures issues such as logic holes, character issues, plot questions etc. The editorial letter will also include suggested next steps. I will point out recurrent grammatical mistakes, but I am not a copyeditor and will not focus on editing for grammar. Live coaching calls are conducted over Zoom where we discuss the feedback and next steps in person.
  • How do you deliver feedback?
    All documents will be submitted to your personal folder in Google docs. I will make any in-line edits using the Track Changes and Comments function in Google docs. All editorial letters will be typed in standard format and will be submitted to your client folder in Google docs. Coaching calls take place on Zoom and will be recorded.
  • Will my ideas and/or manuscript be kept confidential?
    Absolutely! All the writing will be done by you and belong to you. When you sign up for one of my coaching services, there will be a contract to protect us both.
  • What genres do you coach?
    My favorite genres are historical fiction and women's fiction (book club, upmarket, literary, and commercial). I am also open to working in YA, Christian, mystery, and memoir. And anything with food writing - I'll take it! If you aren't sure about your genre, just send me a message or set up a free consultation call and we'll talk. I would not be the right coach for you if you write children's books, horror, or erotica. If you are looking for a coach in any of these genres, I can give you the names of other Author Accelerator Certified coaches who can help you.
  • Can you guarantee that I'll get an agent/get published/write a bestseller?
    No - and if there's one thing I know about writing it is that there are no guarantees of success. However, I can promise honest and supportive feedback that will help you craft your best possible book now and wherever you go on your writing journey.
  • How do I get started?
